It was a rough affair between the two teams yesterday, which included a high-stick on Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes which left him bloody and needing to wear face protection for the remainder of the game.
While the high-stick on Quinn Hughes was certainly accidental, there was another incident in the first period that raised some eyebrows after the officials didn't call a penalty.
While in the Canucks' zone, Vancouver defenseman Noah Juulsen was reaching for the puck in the air near the boards behind the goal line when Tampa Bay Lightning forward Conor Geekie comes in and delivers a cross-check to his back.
The cross-check forced Noah Juulsen to fall to the ice and into the boards, but thankfully he got up immediately and continued to play.
Surprisingly, there was no call on the play and with the official looking right at Noah Juulsen and Conor Geekie, it makes it even more ridiculous that nothing was called.
As mentioned, Noah Juulsen was fine and able to continue playing, which would've likely negated a five-minute major, but, Conor Geekie should have been handed a two-minute minor for cross-checking.
It was a dangerous play, close to the boards and it could have caused a serious injury to Noah Juulsen, especially if he was standing even just a couple of inches forward as he would've landed with his head smacking the boards.
Despite a strong effort from the Canucks at 5-on-5, the Tampa Bay Lightning rode a pair of powerplay goals to a 4-2 victory over Vancouver at Rogers Arena.
Brayden Point, who will represent Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off, led the way for Tampa Bay, recording two goals and two assists in the win over Vancouver.
Vancouver will be back in action on Tuesday night at Rogers Arena as they host the St. Louis Blues with puck drop set for 7 pm PT on Sportsnet Pacific.
