Son of ex-Canuck Darcy Hordichuk taken 1st overall in WHL U.S. Draft

Former Vancouver Canucks forward and long-time NHLer Darcy Hordichuk and his family had a big reason to smile on Wednesday morning.

Darcy's son, Braden Hordichuk, who has been playing his youth hockey in Arizona for the last few years, was selected with the first overall pick in the 2024 Western Hockey League U.S. Priority Draft by the Regina Pats.

"With the first overall pick in the 2024 U.S. Priority Draft, the @WHLPats select Braden Hordichuk from the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes 14U AAA." The WHL said.

Hordichuk, 15, spent the majority of the 2023-24 season playing for the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes 14U AAA team where he had 34 points (22 goals, 12 assists) in 41 games. He also played for his high-school team, Notre Dame Prep, where with the second team, he had 37 points (27 goals, ten assists) in 15 games.

Darcy Hordichuk played two seasons with the Vancouver Canucks where he appeared in 129 games, putting up seven points (five goals, two assists), 251 penalty minutes and was a minus-six.

The Regina Pats are getting a solid player in Braden Hordichuk and he'll be a big piece of their organization for the next four years as they look to become playoff contenders.
