Blueger and the Canucks agreed to terms on a two-year contract worth $3.6 million ($1.8 million AAV) and after the news was made official, he met with reporters via Zoom.
The Riga native said that biggest thing for him and his wife was that they love everyone in the organization and believe it's a special group of people. He added that he thinks the team has great leadership and everyone will hold each other accountable, bringing the team closer and forming relationships with the guys and creating a winning environment.
"Probably the biggest thing for both my wife and I, we just really love the people and everyone in the organization my teammates, everyone's families and wives. We felt like it was a really special group of people, so that was probably the biggest thing," Blueger said.
He added, "I think we have great leadership and guys that will hold each other accountable, and I think also the closeness and the relationships that are in that room will push each other to be accountable and do the job and guys want to win together."
Blueger, 29, joined the Canucks as an unrestricted free agent last summer just weeks after winning the Stanley Cup with the Vegas Golden Knights. In his first season with the Canucks, he tied his career-high in points and provided Rick Tocchet with a versatile option in the bottom-six.
In 68 games, Blueger recorded 28 points (six goals, 22 assists), 31 penalty minutes and was a plus-four. He went on to add two assists in 13 Stanley Cup Playoff contests.
