The Vancouver Canucks are in a tailspin as speculation and drama surrounding their top stars are in full swing, and now Elias Pettersson is at the center of trade rumors.

Just a few days ago, NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman decided send major waves through the NHL by suggesting that the Vancouver Canucks may consider trading their star forward Elias Pettersson to the Buffalo Sabres for Bowen Byram and Dylan Cozens.

"I had some time on Sunday to think and I was thinking about the Sabres and I was thinking about Rick Tocchet and what he had to say on Saturday and reiterated on Sunday. I want to stress this is purely in my head, who says no? [Dylan] Cozens and Bowen Byram for Pettersson."

But as Friedman came out to admit that this was "all made up in his head", another rumor has come to the surface that has fans buzzing.

"Will all of that said, I want to stress that is in my head."

Vancouver Canucks Trade Rumor Involving Elias Pettersson Going to the Carolina Hurricanes

The trade for Elias Pettersson to the Sabres seems to not make much sense due to the return, but NHL Trade Rumors suggest another deal that admittedly makes a lot more sense.

The mock trade would send Nils Hoglander and Elias Pettersson to the Carolina Hurricanes for Dmitry Orlov (50% retained salary), Seth Jarvis, Jack Roslovic, 2025 first-round pick.

The Elias Pettersson Mock Trade:
Carolina Hurricanes receive: Nils Hoglander, Elias Pettersson
Vancouver Canucks receive: Dmitry Orlov (50% retained salary), Seth Jarvis, Jack Roslovic, 2025 first-round pick

Why this trade makes sense

Other than the obvious benefit of getting a first-round pick, this trade could do a lot of good for the Canucks, for one thing, they have been looking for upgrades on the blue line that Dmitry Orlov would be more than a viable option.

The same goes for forwards Jack Roslovic and Seth Jarvis, they offer high offensive potential and versatility, where they both can be slotted either in the bottom or top-6 forward group.

Although this is all speculation, if the Canucks do decide to part ways with EP40, this deal could be the one that makes the most sense for all parties involved.
