Less than 24 hours after assigning Latvian goaltender Arturs Silovs to the American Hockey League's Abbotsford Canucks, Vancouver is bringing him back up to the National Hockey League.
In a social media post this morning, Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announced that the team has called up Arturs Silovs, while assigning Ty Young back to the AHL's Abbotsford Canucks.
Silovs' brief stint in the American Hockey League was for one reason - game time. Prior to playing 8:55 in the third period on Saturday night against the Edmonton Oilers, Silovs' last game was a 6-0 loss to the New Jersey Devils on October 30th.
In Abbotsford's game yesterday against the Bakersfield Condors, the Riga native made 23 save on 25 shots as the Canucks won the game by a score of 4-2. Akito Hirose, Danila Klimovich and Jett Woo all registered two point games in the win.
The Vancouver Canucks will be back in action tomorrow night against the Calgary Flames at Rogers Arena and it's going to be interesting to see who Rick Tocchet turns to for the start. Kevin Lankinen has been solid all season long, but had a rough outing on Saturday against Edmonton, allowing seven goals on 27 shots. Meanwhile, Silovs played well on Sunday against Bakersfield, but hasn't played an NHL game in nearly two weeks.
Puck drop for tomorrow's game against Calgary is set for 7 pm PT and can be viewed across Canada on Sportsnet Pacific and Sportsnet One.
