It's been another incredible season for Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes, putting up 31 points entering action on Sunday afternoon.
After putting up 92 points last season and winning the first Norris Trophy of his National Hockey League career, many were wondering what the 25-year-old would have in store this year.
Historic could be one way to put Quinn Hughes' season so far after he broke Alex Edler's record for most assists by a defenseman in franchise history.
In the first period, not long after getting high-sticked which left him bloody, Quinn Hughes was back on the ice with some face protection and was determined to make an impact.
The face-off was won right back to Hughes and he walks in down the wall before stopping, turning back, cutting in at the top of the circle and throwing the puck on net through traffic and it made it's way past Andrei Vasilevskiy to give the Canucks a 1-0 lead.
With his goal, Quinn Hughes passed Adrian Aucoin for tenth on the all-time goals list by a defenseman in Vancouver Canucks franchise history with 50.
Alexander Edler holds the franchise record with 99 goals, which should be passed by Quinn Hughes within the next couple of seasons.
Hughes also became the second-quickest defenseman in franchise history to score 50 goals, doing so in 392, while Rick Lanz reached that feat in 375 contests.
Unfortunately for the Canucks, Tampa Bay went on to score twice in the middle frame and twice in the third period enroute to a 4-2 win, giving Rick Tocchet's group their second lost in three games.
The Vancouver Canucks will be back in action on Tuesday night as they welcome the St. Louis Blues to town for a 7 pm PT puck drop.
