The Vancouver Canucks have announced some good news regarding superstar Elias Pettersson as he has been activated from the injured reserve (IR) and will play against the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday.

Elias Pettersson has not been in the lineup since before the NHL holiday break, playing his last game against the San Jose Sharks resulting in a 4-3 win.

It was an unfortunate fate for the star as he was having his best game of the season, scoring two goals before being removed in the third period.

Pettersson has been under intense scrutiny this season for many reasons, including his drama with teammate J.T. Miller and the fact he is underperforming on the ice compared to the money is making per year.

Pettersson, who signed an eight-year, $92.8-million extension last season, has been the centre of alleged off-ice drama between him and centre J.T. Miller.

Pettersson may not be playing up to his large contract, but the fact of the matter is he is playing poorly enough to receive the hate he gets.

The Sundsvall, Sweden native and All-Star sits 5th in points for the Vancouver Canucks this season, recording 10 goals and 18 assists for 28 points in 34 games, sitting at just under a point per game average.

Hopefully, all of the trade tumors that clouds over the Canucks and Pettersson this season will not have a major effect on his play.

Despite all of the drama, the Vancouver Canucks desperately need the help of Elias Pettersson as the team has lost 7 out of their last 10 games, struggling on defense and not being able to produce offensively.
