Two Vancouver Canucks defensive prospects made a mark for their respective teams on Sunday, with Sawyer Mynio and Tom Willander each landing on the scoresheet at the World Juniors.

Sawyer Mynio made his tournament debut for Team Canada in a 3-0 win over Germany, assisting on Caden Price's goal to go up 2-0.

Mynio was was registered to Team Canada following an injury to top 2025 NHL Draft prospect Matthew Schaefer in an upset 3-2 shootout loss to Latvia.

Tom Willander, the 10th overall pick in 2023, is playing a prominent role on Team Sweden's blueline, and he was an offensive force against Switzerland with two goals and an assist.

A product of Boston University, Willander has Canucks fans counting the days until he can join their currently maligned blueline.

Willander plays at 2 PM PST against Czechia on New Year's Eve, while Mynio and the Canadians play their annual NYE matchup against Team USA at 4:30 PST.

3rd Vancouver Canucks prospect playing stready role at World Juniors

The Canucks have a 3rd defensive prospect at the World Juniors in Basile Sansonnens, a 7th round pick in 2024 who plays in Rimouski in the QMJHL.

Sansonnens and Team Switzerland took on Sweden on Sunday, and almost mounted a comeback against ther Swedes.

Sansonnens played a tournament high 16:44, but was a -1 in the loss.

While he's not making the headlines a player like Tom Willander is, Sansonnens has been a dependable player for team Switzerland.
