Vancouver Canucks Put Their Faith Back into Arturs Silovs for Matchup Against the Chicago Blackhawks
The Vancouver Canucks have announced today that they will be finally giving a shot to Arturs Silovs to be the starting goalie for their matchup against Connor Bedard and the Chicago Blackhawks.
When Thatcher Demko went down with a serious knee injury last playoffs, the Vancouver Canucks were forced to put all of their faith into 23-year-old rookie Arturs Silovs. With much surprise, Silovs stepped up and showed inclinations that he will be the Canucks future starting goalie.
Unfortunately for him and the Canucks, the 2024-2025 season has been anything but smooth sailing. At one point holding the worst save percentage in the NHL, he basically left no choice to head coach Rick Tocchet to give the starting job to offseason signee Kevin Lankinen.
Vancouver Canucks Name Arturs Silovs as their Starting goalie for matchup with Chicago Blackhawks
Other than a few recent hiccups, goalie Kevin Lankinen has been unbelieve for the Canucks, becoming a huge reason for their early success. But, after a rough few starts, the team is looking to switch things up and are now going back to Silovs.
Silovs has been on the bench backing up Lankinen in all but 3 games, as the team holds a 8-4-3 record. With all of the waiting around, the the Canucks elected to send Silovs down to the AHL Abbotsford Canucks to get some game time under his belt.
After a super solid start, he is looking to continue that success and confidence back in the NHL tonight against the Blackhawks.
Silovs has a 0-2-1 record, achieving just a .808 save percentage and 4.77 goals against average. It is going to be a pressure filled test for the youngster as the team is indicating he is skating on thin ice (pun intended) and needs to prove to them now that he can be trusted in net.
