QMJHL Game Ends Early as Justin Blais is Stretchered Off the Ice with Scary Head Injury
A scary scene occurred in the QMJHL on Friday night as a 2026 NHL Draft prospect hit his head off the ice and needed to be stretchered off.
It was a tough night in the hockey world on Friday when it came to players getting seriously injured. In the National Hockey League, New York Islanders defenceman was motionless after hitting his head off the ice. Then in the Quebec Maritimes Hockey League, a similar incident occurred with a player eligible for the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.
Justin Blais stretchered off after hitting his head on the ice
During Friday's game between Gatineau and Baie-Comeau, Olympiques defenceman Justin Blais was involved in a scrum where he then fell to the ice and hit his head. According to Mikaël Lalancette ofLe Soleil de Québec, Blais began convulsing after hitting his head and needed to be stretchered off, but was conscious while being taken off the ice.
Note: the following is translated from French.
"Very disturbing scene in Baie-Comeau, Justin Blais of the Olympiques' head hits the ice while falling during a skirmish. He falls into convulsions and has to be taken off the ice on a stretcher. Fortunately, he was conscious when he came out. Thoughts for the @OlympiquesGAT." Lalancette said in a social media post.
The Olympiques shared an update shortly after Blais was stretchered off the ice saying that he has been taken to a local hospital in Baie-Comeau for testing, adding that he's alert and responsive.
On Saturday morning, the Olympiques shared an image, with the permission of Blais, of the blueliner at the hospital in a neck brace with several cuts to his face. Blais wanted to thank fans for their kind words after last night's incident.
It's nice to see that Justin Blais is in good spirits and it appears, doing well at this time. It was a scary scene for sure last night in Baie-Comeau and hopefully, he'll be able to return to the ice as soon as safely possible.
