Motionless: New York Islanders Defenseman Mike Reilly Severely Injured After Head Slams on the Ice
In what turned out to be a scary scene in Buffalo this evening, New York Islanders defenseman Mike Reilly was severely injured after taking a hit by Sabres forward Jordan Greenway.
Mid-way through the second period, Reilly was checked by Jordan Greenway against the boards in was seemed to be a clean hit. Nothing screamed intentional or dirty at all, but the result was serious. Reilly head went head first into the ice resulting in him laying motionless on the ice until a stretcher was taking out.
Fortunately, the stretcher was just a precaution as the situation seemed to turn for the better as Reilly regained consciousness and was able to skate off the ice with the help of the medical staff and fellow teammates.
So far, there have been no update on the status of Mike Reilly, or on the extent of his injury, but seeing him skate of the ice was a massive relief for everyone, especially the spectators in Buffalo. We are expected developments to be released, and when they do, we will update you in his condition.
