BREAKING | NHL issues an official statement: Bettman and the league awarded prizes
Gary Bettman has now been the league's commissioner for three decades, making him the longest-standing commissioner in any sport.
Today Bettman and the NHL were awarded prizes, the first for his long tenure atop the NHL and the league for their Digitally Enhanced Dasherboards as the Sports Breakthrough of the Year. The NHL released an official statement in that regard via their Public Relations Twitter accounts:
''Congratulations to @NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman on receiving the 2023 @SBJ Lifetime Achievement Award tonight in New York City.
The NHL also won the SBJ award for Sports Breakthrough of the Year: Digitally Enhanced Dasherboards. #SBJAwards''
No, it's not a joke and as you've guessed, it's causing quite a stir among the fans. While the Dasherboards have done some good in increasing the league's revenue and therefore given better chances at a probable cap increase, they've also caused lots of bugs for fans watching the games through their televisions.
Here are only a few of the responses, as expected, the replies are not very keen:
