LATEST | KHL announces major rule change for 2023-24 season
A major rule change is coming to the Kontinental Hockey League next season that will benefit teams on the man advantage.
If a powerplay carries over into the next period (second, third or overtime) or a period starts with a penalty due to an infraction at the end of the previous frame, the opening faceoff of that period will be held in the shorthanded team's end.
"Starting in 2023-24, the #KHL will further teams advantage on the powerplay as they will get to take a face-off in the defending teams zone at the start of a new period or OT."
While it's unlikely to make an appearance here in North America, at least not anytime soon, it'll be interesting to see how this plays out throughout the KHL's next season.
The KHL's 2023-24 season is set to begin on Friday, September 1st when defending Gagarin Cup champions CSKA Moscow take on AK Bars Kazan.
