Vancouver may be getting a new professional hockey team this year
3-on-3 overtime has become loved by fans in the National Hockey League since its introduction ahead of the 2015-16 season and while we've seen one league with this format before, 3ICE, there now appears to be a new one on the horizon.
According to Steve Dangle, a new 3-on-3 professional hockey league will debut this fall with 16 teams spread across North America, but there hasn't been an official announcement of when it'll start or where the teams will be based out of.
Each of the 16 teams will have a salary cap of $30 million, which is quite high for brand new hockey league. All of the players involved will have experience in pro, junior or college hockey.

There also appears to be significant financial backing for this league, with reports suggesting that there has been investments from the Middle East and Saudi Arabia specifically.
"Great scoop by @Steve_Dangle!
Furthermore, MLH is believed to be funded by financial backing coming from the Middle East.
LIV Hockey? 🤔" Nick Alberga said.
According to David Pagnotta, some NHL higher ups are aware of this new professional league and he added that among the cities discussed to have a team is Vancouver, British Columbia.
"Nice job here by Steve. Word started to spread on this a couple of weeks ago. Some of the NHL's higher ups are aware.
Further to Steve's reporting, some of the cities I'm told discussed (not yet fully confirmed) include Quebec City, Hamilton, Vancouver, Kansas City, Omaha." Pagnotta said.
It'll be interesting to keep an eye on this over the coming weeks to see if more information is released regarding this new professional hockey league and if Vancouver is indeed one of the cities that will get a team.
