There's been no shortage of excitement during the Stanley Cup Final this year, with Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers erasing a 3-0 deficit to force a winner-take-all Game 7 tonight in South Florida.
Once the Stanley Cup Final began, the tourism department in Edmonton used this as an opportunity to taunt the Panthers and their fans while also getting exposure for people to come and visit the city.
Edmonton Explore, the city's tourism account on social media, shared images of billboard space that they bought at the beginning of the 2024 Stanley Cup Final. It's pretty hilarious to see and, quite frankly, a smart idea as well.
The billboard mentioned tells people to come and explore the City of Edmonton, raves about its five Stanley Cup championships (the last being 34 years ago), and says it's rat-free, which is a dig at the Panthers' tradition of throwing rubber rats onto the ice after a victory.
The Edmonton Oilers have a chance to bring the Stanley Cup home to Canada tonight and become the second team in NHL history to complete the reverse sweep in the Final, joining the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs. The puck drop is set for 8 pm ET on Sportsnet and CBC.
