After Jack Rathbone was cut and sent through waivers, it seemed clear that his time with the Canucks was ending. The emergence of the Canucks' NCAA free agent signing like Akito Hirose and Cole McWard pushed him down the team's depth chart, and today, Patrik Allvin acted on it.

SENT TO PITTSBURGH IN A 4 PIECE DEAL

Rathbone was the team's 4th Round Selection in 2017. After two dominant seasons at Harvard University, he graduated to the AHL, where he made a firm name, but his game never translated to the NHL.

Here's the team's formal announcement:

''General Manager Patrik Allvin announces that the #Canucks have acquired defenceman Mark Friedman and forward Ty Glover from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Jack Rathbone and Karel Plasek.''

Friedman, 27, is a right-handed shot defenseman originally drafted by the Flyers in the 3rd Round of the 2014 Draft. Through 65 career NHL games, he collected 12 points.

The different analysis on the defenseman suggests that he could be a suitable option as the Canucks' 6th or perhaps 7th defenseman ahead of Noah Juulsen. At this point, only time will tell:

We wish to thank Rathbone for his time within the Canucks' organization. Hopefully, he can find success with his new team.
