Yaroslav Askarov (and forward Nolan Burke, 3rd round draft pick) has been traded to the San Jose Sharks for 2023 first round pick David Edstrom, Goaltender Magnus Chrona, and a 2025 1st round draft pick.

Yaroslav Askarov, the highly-touted 22-year-old goaltender, has been making waves ever since he was selected as the 11th overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft. Known for his impressive performances on the international stage in the world juniors, and in the AHL, Askarov has long been viewed as one of the most promising young goaltenders in hockey. However, his journey with the Nashville Predators took an unexpected turn earlier this week when Askarov requested a trade-a request that has now been granted, sending him to the San Jose Sharks.

Despite his clear talent and potential, Askarov's future with the Nashville Predators became uncertain. The Predators recently committed to Juuse Saros, their standout goaltender, by signing him to a long-term extension. Saros has established himself as one of the top goaltenders in the league, which left Askarov's path to becoming a starting goaltender in Nashville murky at best. With limited opportunities to step into the NHL spotlight in Nashville, Askarov saw the writing on the wall and requested a trade.
