The former first-rounder Rutger McGroarty expressed his desire to be traded. Since then, he's been linked to just about any other NHL team.

After much speculation regarding Rutger McGroarty's future with the Winnipeg Jets, details of a rejected trade offer from the Montreal Canadiens have surfaced. McGroarty was selected 14th overall by the Jets in the 2022 NHL Draft and was the main piece in the trade.

The offer included Filip Mesar, a draft pick from the Florida Panthers or Calgary Flames, and a younger defenseman, with Justin Barron and Joran Harris named possibilities. Both teams struggled to finalize deals, but the scenario remains fluid. The Jets hope to agree with McGroarty, but the trade potential remains uncertain.

Rutger McGroarty, a promising right-wing drafted 14th overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the 2022 NHL Draft, has shown impressive development. Starting his career with the Oakland Grizzlies and excelling with the US National U18 Team, McGroarty is now a key player for the University of Michigan. In the 2022-2023 season, he played 37 games, scoring 18 goals and 20 assists, totalling 38 points with a +15 plus/minus rating. His offensive prowess and versatility make him a standout prospect for the Jets.
