Elias Pettersson is back in Sweden recovering from the 2023-24 season and the knee injury he dealt with from January onwards. While in Sweden, Pettersson is also coaching at the EP40 skills camp and met with the media recently, saying that he's looking forward to next season and that life in Vancouver is great.
Pettersson also went to say that the team has something good going on right now, with the players, coaches and management staff they have. He added that now the team has to build on the success they had last season after nearly reaching their first Western Conference Final since 2011.
For his part, Pettersson was over a point-per-game player for the second consecutive season despite the fact he saw his point total drop by nearly 13% from the 2022-23 campaign. In 82 games, the Sundsvall native had 89 points (34 goals, 55 assists), 12 penalty minutes and was a plus-20.
The Canucks made some big changes this summer with Elias Lindholm, Nikita Zadorov and Ian Cole leaving the organization, while Jake DeBrusk, Danton Heinen, Derek Forbort and others were brought in. Rick Tocchet's group should certainly be in the mix for first place in the Pacific Division late in the 2024-25 season, as they were last season. Losing players like Lindholm, Zadorov and Cole hurt, but Patrik Allvin did a solid job at finding replacements on the free agent market.
