San Jose deals former first round pick in trade with Nashville
Last week saw quite a few trades and a couple of significant ones too and on Sunday, the Sharks and Predators have come together to complete a deal.
In a social media post, the San Jose Sharks announced that they've acquired forward Egor Afanasyev from the Nashville Predators and have sent 2020 first round pick
Ozzy Wiesblatt the other way.
"TRADE 🔄
The #SJSharks acquire forward Egor Afanasyev from the Nashville Predators in exchange for forward Ozzy Wiesblatt." The Sharks said.
Wiesblatt, 22, was selected 31st overall by the San Jose Sharks in 2020, but never made his way up to the big club for his NHL debut. This past season, he split time in the American Hockey League between the San Jose Barracuda and Milwaukee Admirals, who are Nashville's affiliate. In 50 games, he put up 17 points (four goals, 13 assists), 55 penalty minutes and was a minus-five. He added nine points in 15 playoff games with the Admirals.
Afanasyev, 23, has a little bit of NHL experience, 19 games in total, and becomes another scoring weapon in the Sharks' prospect pool. The Tver, Russia native spent the majority of the year with Nashville's AHL affiliate in Milwaukee where he had 54 points (27 goals, 27 assists), 60 penalty minutes and was a plus-23 in 56 games. He also went on to record nine points in 15 playoff games.
