The Arizona Coyotes have had a tumultuous last several years regarding their arena situation. Currently playing out of Arizona State University's Mullett Arena, the team has been scrambling to solidify new arena plans within the state. Scottsdale, Arizona, mayor David Ortega has clarified that the team can cross his city off the list of potential locations.

The Coyotes, who have been officially eliminated from playoff contention and haven't made the postseason since 2020, have been eyeing a 95-acre plot of state-owned land near Scottsdale Road, within the city limits of Phoenix. However, Mayor Ortega was adamant about the area not being feasible and voiced his strong opinion:

today, the fantasy hockey project must move west, away from Scottsdale.

The prospect of a rookie developer attempting to buy Arizona State Trust Land with no infrastructure is not feasible or welcome.

This comes just a year after voters rejected a potential arena plan in the nearby city of Tempe.
