The Canucks just announced a trade with the Colorado Avalanche. Transaction that saw Tucker Poolman and a 2025 Fourth Round Draft Pick leaving for the former first rounder Erik Brannstrom.
Brannstrom, a 25-year-old puck moving defenceman, heads to Vancouver with a high-end potential, one he has yet to live up to. With 266 NHL games under his belt, he still has lots to learn and will definitely benificiate from the Canucks' staff.
The Golden Knights' 15th overall pick in 2017, has already been a part of four organizations. Before joining he even took his first North American strides, he was involved in the blockbuster deal that moved the star forward Mark Stone from the Ottawa Senators to the Las Vegas Golden Knights.
He then spent six seasons with the Senators' organizations and was established as an NHLer for the last two. As a free agent, he signed with the Colorado Avalanche on the most recent 2nd of July, before they opted to trade him for cap space.
From there, it'll be interesting to see if Brannstrom finds a way to crack the Canucks' top six. While he does have a set of skills the Canucks could use, left handed Defensemen aren't a position of need for the Canucks as they've already got Quinn Hughes, Carson Soucy and Derek Forbort.
Overall, regardless of where Brannstrom ends up, this his a win for Allvin since he figured out a way to move Poolman, gain cap space and retrieve assets along the way.
