Roster Move: Winless Vancouver Canucks call up defenseman Erik Brannstrom for reinforcements
After the Vancouver Canucks have lost their 3rd straight game to open up the season, they have announced a roster move that will call up defenseman Erik Brannstrom from the Abbottsford Canucks of the AHL.
Sounds like Erik Brännström will be joining the Canucks in Florida. Played in two games for the Abbotsford Canucks after being acquired in a trade with Colorado.
Offense, but especially defense have bas been the major issue for the Vancouver Canucks, and with the likes of Tyler Myers not having a good showing since coming back with an injury, the team has called in reinforcements for the rights side of the defense.
Erik Brannstrom is an offensive defenseman that the Canucks acquired in a trade from the Colorado Avalanche. With the Canucks now 0-1-2, they need all the help they can get and Brannstrom has been lighting the lamp and showing off his amazing skating in the AHL for Abbottsford.
Once he was acquired, Brannstrom was placed on waivers for an AHL assignment. In just two games in Abbotsford, the left-shot defenseman impressed with his moves and stick handling while registering three assists.
«Canucks issues are clearly on the right side. I've been told this morning, Brannstrom can play the right side. He is a lefty, but he can play on the right side.»
Why Call Up Erik Brannstrom?
Vincent Desharnais has been a health bombed for two consecutive game now after struggling in his first game with the Canucks since signing a 2-year deal. Noah Juulsen has has a similar narrative but he instead missed the first two games of the regular season . When he finally got his opportunity last night (October 16th) against the Tampa Bay Lighting, his only highlight was a major & costly turnover that led to a goal against.
The Vancouver Canucks are hoping that Brannstrom will bring some youth, speed and much needed puck moving offense that has been lacking.
