After going unsigned all summer and even being linked to the Vancouver Canucks, it appears that Victoria, British Columbia native Tyson Barrie has found his new home, at least temporarily.
In a social media post on Tuesday, the Calgary Flames announced that they've signed defenceman Tyson Barrie to a professional tryout contract. Barrie will attend training camp and preseason games with the Calgary Flames and if he performs well, could be signed to a standard contract for the 2024-25 season before opening night on October 9th.
Barrie, 33, was one of the most experienced players remaining on the free agent market with over 800 games in the NHL under his belt and spent parts of the last two seasons with the Nashville Predators after being dealt to them by Edmonton in February 2023.
In 41 games for the Predators last season, Barrie registered 15 points (one goal, 14 assists), 16 penalty minutes and was a minus-ten. He also appeared in one game during Nashville's first round series against the Vancouver Canucks where he had one assist.
