The Carolina Hurricanes have called up a former Canucks goaltender in time for tonight's game in Vancouver.

A familiar face is set to return to Vancouver tonight as the Canucks host the Carolina Hurricanes at Rogers Arena for the second game of their three-game homestand.

On Monday morning, the Carolina Hurricanes announced that they've called up goaltender Spencer Martin from the American Hockey League's Chicago Wolves. It's unclear at the time of writing this the reason for Martin's call up, especially since Frederik Andersen and Pyotr Kochetkov are playing well to start the season.

It's possible that one of them is dealing with an injury, but the Hurricanes have yet to comment on that or confirm who will be between the pipes for tonight's game in Vancouver.

"Eric Tulsky, General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled goaltender Spencer Martin from the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League (AHL)." The Hurricanes said in a statement on Monday morning.

The Hurricanes re-signed Spencer Martin to a one-year contract for the 2024-25 season back in March and with Antti Raanta now overseas in Switzerland, he becomes the Hurricanes' third goaltender. Thankfully, the Hurricanes signed a new affiliate agreement with the Chicago Wolves after a one-year absence, which allowed Martin to start the year in the AHL, rather than sitting in the stands and not seeing any game action.

Martin, 29, spent parts of two seasons with the Vancouver Canucks in 2021-22 and 2022-23, the latter of which he appeared in quite a few games. In 35 games with the Canucks, the Oakville, Ontario native had a record of 14-15-4 along with a 3.56 goals against average and an .887 save percentage.

Puck drop for tonight's game between the Vancouver Canucks and Carolina Hurricanes is set for 7 pm PT/10 pm PT on Sportsnet Pacific.
