Connor McDavid addresses the Oilers' game one collapse in Vancouver
The Edmonton Oilers played quite well through the first 30 minutes of Wednesday's Game 1 of their second-round series against the Vancouver Canucks.
Led by Zach Hyman's two goals, the Oilers had a 4-1 lead at one point in the second period but then collapsed in a big way in the final 30 minutes of Wednesday's contest.
Thanks to a three-goal third period, the Vancouver Canucks worked their way back to take Game 1 on home ice by a score of 5-4. It wasn't pretty, and the Canucks are hoping for a better start on Friday night, but from the Oilers perspective, they aren't too happy with how they played in the third period.
After the game, Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid spoke to the media and gave his thoughts on the collapse.
"They're a good team, and they're doing everything they could to come back, and we were doing everything we could to hold onto the lead, which happens in the playoffs. You try to hold onto leads, and sometimes you're too passive. I thought we were doing a good job holding the lead. They find a way to get two and find a way to get a third there to win." McDavid said.
This loss won't sit well with the Oilers players or coaching staff, and there's no doubt they'll come out full tilt on Friday night to try and pull off the win and head back to Edmonton with the series tied at two games apiece.
Puck drop for Game 2 tomorrow night at Rogers Arena is set for 7 p.m. PT/10 p.m. ET on CBC and Sportsnet.
