According to reports out of Russia, former Stanley Cup champion Gemel Smith has agreed to terms on a contract with KHL club Dinamo Minsk.

The 29-year-old spent parts of nine seasons playing professionally in North America, mainly in the American Hockey League, but also featured in 91 games in the NHL with Dallas, Boston, Tampa Bay and Detroit. In those 91 career NHL games, Smith put up 25 points (12 goals, 13 assists), 58 penalty minutes and was a plus-one.

This past season, Smith set a new career-high in points in the American Hockey League, where he split time with the Syracuse Crunch and Henderson Silver Knights. In 54 games, he recorded 53 points (18 goals, 35 assists), 145 penalty minutes and was a plus-nine.

The Toronto native was apart of the Tampa Bay Lightning organization in 2021 when they defeated the Montreal Canadiens in five games to win their third Stanley Cup in franchise history. While he didn't play the required amount of games to have his name engraved on the Stanley Cup, Smith was on the ice at the end of Game 5 to celebrate with the team and hoist hockey's greatest trophy above his head.
