LATEST | Canucks prospect places his bet on the next Abbotsford player to make the jump to the big league
Vancouver Canucks prospect Jett Woo took a big step last year, which was his third in the American Hockey League with Abbotsford.
The Winnipeg native nearly tripled his previous career-high in points by putting up 21 (seven goals, 14 assists), along with 96 penalty minutes and was a plus-seven in 68 games.
After three seasons in the AHL, Woo has his sights set on playing in the NHL with Vancouver and recently sat down with Chris Faber to discuss the 2022-23 campaign, as well as his goals going forward.
"It was a big year mentally. After that first year in Abby, I definitely got in my own head after preseason, thinking about too much but I went into last season with the mindset of I was drafted there for a reason and to play that kind of hockey." Woo said about the 2022-23 season.
He went on to add, "My expectations are nothing less than playing in the NHL. That's my priority. That's my goal. I feel like I've taken some good steps, especially this summer and I'm coming in ready. I'm going to be a prick on the ice and I'm going to be one of the leaders as well."
Woo will get ample opportunity in training camp and pre-season games in September and early October, but looking at the Canucks' depth chart on the blue line, it's hard to envision him making the team right away. If injuries occur throughout the season, combined with him playing well with AHL Abbotsford, then there's no doubt he could appear in some games for Vancouver before the end of the 2023-24 campaign.
