As everyone knows by now, Vancouver Canucks top prospect Tom Willander is heading to Boston University of the NCAA this season to continue his development on this side of the Atlantic, rather than heading back to Sweden.

But according to Mark Divver of NHL.com, Willander will not be able to play in Boston University's opening game of the 2023-24 season because he suited up for two games in the Swedish Hockey League last season. Divver added that it's happened to other players last year who came over including Bruins prospect Oskar Jellvik and Devils prospect Viktor Hurtig. Funny enough, Willander dressed for both games but registered a total of 0:00 in icetime:

"Word is that because he played 2 games in SHL last season, Boston University's Tom Willander (Canucks 1st rounder) will have to sit out one NCAA game when season starts next month" Divver said in a post on X.

Rick Dhaliwal of CHEK TV went on to add that Willander's agent Todd Diamond and Boston University have chosen not to appeal the decision, meaning he'll miss October 7th's game against Bentley University.

If all goes well, Willander will make his NCAA debut with Boston University on Friday, October 13th against the University of New Hampshire Wildcats.
