On Monday, former Canucks defenceman Derek Joslin announced his retirement from professional hockey at the age of 36-years-old after a lengthy career in both North America and Europe.
Joslin was drafted into the NHL by the San Jose Sharks in 2005 and appeared in 53 games for them between the 2008-09 and 2010-11 seasons before being dealt to the Carolina Hurricanes, where he'd spent parts of the next two seasons.
In the summer leading up to the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season, Joslin was placed on waivers and had the final year of his contract bought out by Carolina, which made him an unrestricted free agent. He then signed a one-year contract with the Vancouver Canucks, appearing in two games where he had no points or penalty minutes and was a minus-two.
The Richmond Hill, Ontario native then left North America in the summer of 2013 and spent the next ten seasons of his career in Europe with AIK in Sweden, Nuremberg Ice Tigers and EHC Red Bull Munchen in Germany, as well as EC Red Bull Salzburg and EC VSV in Austria.
Congratulations to Derek Joslin on a long professional hockey career, and all the best in retirement!
