LATEST | Former Canucks forward announces retirement from hockey
After 12 seasons in the National Hockey League, including parts of four with the Vancouver Canucks, forward Zack Kassian has announced his retirement at 32.
Kassian announced the news in a statement through the National Hockey League Players' Association website, saying the following:
"To play in the NHL is one thing, but to make a 12-year career of it is pretty special," said Kassian. "From coaches to equipment staff and fellow players I've met along the way, I've made many relationships that will last a lifetime."
Kassian, a first-round pick of Buffalo in 2009, began his NHL career with the Sabres during the 2011-12 season. His time in Buffalo was short, lasting only 27 games, before he was traded that same season to the Vancouver Canucks. After four seasons in Vancouver, he would spend seven seasons with the Edmonton Oilers before capping off his career with a one-year stint in Arizona. Kassian wanted to play this year in the NHL, signing a professional tryout contract (PTO) with Anaheim, but was released before the start of the regular season.
In his four seasons with the Canucks, the Windsor, Ontario native appeared in 171 games, tallying 59 points (32 goals, 27 assists), 287 penalty minutes and was a minus-17.
From all of us here at Canucks Daily, we'd like to congratulate Zack Kassian on a solid professional hockey career and wish him all the best in retirement!
