LATEST | Vasily Podkolzin stretchered off the ice after frightening incident
A scary scene occurred during the third period of Thursday night's game between the Abbotsford Canucks and Colorado Eagles, which saw Vasily Podkolzin leave the game on a stretcher.
With under six minutes to play in the final frame, Podkolzin went into the corner to retrieve the puck when Eagles defenceman Keaton Middleton hit and flipped the Canucks prospect to the ice, where he landed on his neck and head.
Podkolzin needed to be stretchered off, with both teams on the ice surrounding him to show their support and concern, tapping their sticks as he left.
Some fans pointed out that the game should have been called at that point because of the severity of the incident, but the game continued.
After the game ended, the Abbotsford Canucks released a statement with an update on Vasily Podkolzin's status:
"After an incident involving another player during this evening's game against Colorado, Vasily was transported to a local hospital.
Vasily continues to be thoroughly assessed by physicians as a precaution, but since exiting the ice, he has remained alert and responsive."
Podkolzin also updated the fans through his Instagram story, posting a selfie saying, "All good, no worries!!"
The thoughts of everyone here at Canucks Daily are with Vasily Podkolzin, and we hope he makes a quick recovery and can return to game action when it's safe to do so.
