LATEST | Rick Tocchet makes a bold statement on his goaltending tandem
The Canucks returned home after a five-game road trip that ended Tuesday in Nashville. Now showcasing a 4-2-0 record, it's almost impossible to acknowledge the team's outstanding netminding performances thus far. In his most recent mediatic appearance, the team's coach didn't fail to mention it:
TOCCHET PRAISES HIS NETMINDING TANDEM
What seemed to be a big part of the problem last year has been playing a significant role in the team's successes thus far. Tocchet took the mic today to meet with the media and made a bold statement regarding the tandem he has:
''We're in a situation where we're comfortable with our goaltending. I'm biased, but I think we have two of the goaltenders in the league''
It's fair to say that Allvin adressed a particular issue when he acquired DeSmith, and now it seems to be making Demko even better. The American is back to his best self; in 4 starts, he's maintained 92.3% of the pucks sent his way out of the net, while DeSmith managed to do even better with 93.8%. That's looking good for the Canucks and their tandem.
We knew that Demko had the potential to be elite, with a backup to carry some of the load and a defensive structure allowing him to be on his best behaviour. Could the Canucks have a Vezina candidate on their hands? Could they have a Jennings-worthy duo?
