Back in December, while being celebrated by the Canucks organization and put onto the Ring of Honour, former goaltender Roberto Luongo said that the team needs to 'free the skate'.

The 'skate' jerseys are beloved by fans young and old, which has led the team to bring them back for throwback nights and now, as their permanent third jerseys, which they can wear up to 15 times per season.

While the majority of the fan base loves the uniforms, there is one who doesn't and this fan made his feelings well know to Roberto Luongo in a letter recently.

In a post on his social media on Monday, Luongo shared the letter he received from a fan. In the letter, which can be seen below, the fan seemed quite angry that Luongo said in his speech to those at Rogers Arena, 'free the skate'.

The fan went on to say that he's loved the Canucks since 1970 and that they've had many bad jerseys over the years and finally got it right with the blue and green colour scheme.

Later on in the letter, the fan finished things off by saying that Luongo never wore the black and yellow skate jerseys, which the former Canucks goaltender is well aware of, and that his comments were 'bizarre and worthy of an apology'.

While everyone has their feelings towards specific jerseys, whether that be about the Canucks or another NHL franchise, it's a bit much to go this far about a small comment a Vancouver legend said about uniforms he'd like to see the team wear.

Should the Canucks bring back their skate uniforms full-time as home & aways or stick with the Orca? Let us know in the poll below!
