When Patrik Allvin and Jim Rutherford took over the team's management, they knew they had lots on their plate. From contract management to the prospect pool, the team needed a significant change. One of the leftovers from the Jim Benning era and possibly the worst cost-efficient contract on the team, Tyler Myers still badly hurts the team in this tight salary cap era.

MYERS HEFTY DEAL AT ITS END

Caught in a rigid spot cap-wise, it was rumoured all summer long that Allvin had Myers involved in trade talks, but nothing came to fruition, and it's most likely due to his $6M cap hit. The good news behind it all is that only one year remains on his deal, and the Canucks can then be presented with an opportunity to spend that money wisely.

Set to hit the free agency market at the end of 2023-2024, the defenseman joined the Donnie and Dhali show earlier and opened up on his future and possible return to the Canucks. He revealed that talks in that regard had not yet happened, but he'd love to return to the Canucks:

"I would love to stay in Vancouver.."

@Canucks Defenseman Tyler Myers joined the show to talk about the season ahead and his future.

While everyone can agree that Myers hasn't yet lived up to the $6M he's being paid, a 6'08'' defenseman can come in handy. Remember that Foote and Tocchet made the defenseman with the most playing time on the penalty kill, and he usually does well.

At 32 years of age, the 2008 12th overall pick now has 918 NHL games under his belt. It is fair to say that he's now an experienced and seasoned vet; if Myers would agree to a contract with a lower cap hit, would you be keen to keep him around?
