LATEST | Vancouver Canucks honour Canadian sports icon on Thursday
Ahead of Thursday night's game between Vancouver and Minnesota, the Canucks honoured a Canadian sports icon.
The Canucks brought soccer star Christine Sinclair onto the ice prior to puck drop where she received a loud ovation from the fans at Rogers Arena.
"A Canadian and BC legend! 🐐
We could not be more excited to have Olympic Gold Medalist and the all-time leader in international goals at tonight's game. Welcome Christine Sinclair and congratulations on your retirement!"
Sinclair concluded her illustrious international career for Canada on Tuesday night at BC Place, defeating Australia by a score of 1-nil, where she played just under 60 minutes in the match before being replaced to a loud standing ovation from the 45,000+ in attendance.
The Burnaby native is one of Canada's greatest athletes of all-time, representing her nation 331 times between 2000 and 2023, scoring 190 goals, which is a record in the women's game. Sinclair played for Canada at six Women's World Cups, as well as four Olympics, winning bronze twice and gold at Tokyo 2020.
From everyone here at Canucks Daily, congratulations to Christine Sinclair on an incredible international career for Canada!
