MAJOR | Top-end Canucks prospect Joni Jurmo makes major statement regarding his North-American future
The Canucks used the 82nd selection of the 2020 draft to select the tall left-handed shot defenceman Joni Jurmo. Jurmo still plays in Finland's top league, the Liiga, where he's developing steadily.
The prospect was in town this week for the Canucks' development camp. Where he showed the full extent of his potential. In an interview with Chris Faber from Canucks Army, he gave a massive update on his North-American future. He was asked if he'd like to join the Canucks in Abbotsford, and his response his promising:
''Oh yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That would be unreal."
A 6'4'' and 190 pounds defenseman with tremendous skills and skating abilities, he collected 13 points in 52 games. It is expected that his offensive output and his role will be growing this year, and he'd be a great addition to a somewhat small defensive core with the Canucks.
The defenseman remains without a contract in North America, but that sure is the next step to bring him over, perhaps once his season in Finland ends. The Canucks used that same strategy with Filip Johansson and it seems to be working wonders.
