MAJOR | The deal the Canucks offered Kyle Burroughs revealed: Sheds light on why he chose to go to San Jose
The Canucks lost a soldier to free agency after they had tried to retain his services. Kyle Burroughs decided to leave his hometown Canucks, for the San Jose Sharks.
The Vancouver, BC native spent most of his NHL career with the Canucks (90 games out of 95). The homegrown hero decided to test the free agency market and took his talents to the Sharks. The Canucks turned around and signed Matt Irwin to replace him as the depth defender.
Burroughs ended up signing a 3-year deal worth $3.3M while his offer from the Canucks stood at 2 years.
''According to @FriedgeHNIC, VAN offered Burroughs a 2-year deal, but he decided to take the 3-year offer from SJS. So quit blaming Allvin for «not wanting him».
Burroughs was given the opportunity to speak about the time he spent playing for the Canucks when he was invited to Donnie and Dhali earlier this week.
''It was a dream come true to play in Vancouver; putting on that jersey was something special. I will miss the fans; it did not work out with the Canucks.''
Burroughs, an NHL journeyman, chose job security over the comfort of his own home. The AAV from the Canucks' offer was most likely below the Sharks' $1.1M. Burroughs was a tough-as-nail type of guy and left his heart out on the ice. His intensity will be greatly missed in Vancouver, and we wish him the best in continuing his career.
At the end of the day, the NHL remains a business, should Allvin have done a better job at keeping him?
