The Canucks may not be done shopping yet, but there's a strong possibility that a trade may only occur closer to the deadline.

According to Canucks Army's sources, the Canucks have had Marcus Pettersson in their sight for some time now, but given their "competitiveness," the Penguins aren't to part ways with him.

Marcus Pettersson could be a strong fit for the Vancouver Canucks, offering stability and depth to a defensive unit that has been seeking consistency in recent years. The 27-year-old Swedish blueliner, currently with the Pittsburgh Penguins, is known for his solid defensive play, reliable puck-moving skills, and ability to log significant minutes.

If acquired, Pettersson could slot into the Canucks' second pairing, likely alongside a player like Filip Hronek or Tyler Myers. His ability to play in all situations, including on the penalty kill, would give head coach Rick Tocchet more flexibility in managing his defensive matchups. Additionally, Pettersson'ss presence could allow Quinn Hughes to focus more on his offensive game, knowing that the team has a defensively sound player to cover the back end.

Overall, Marcus Pettersson would be a valuable addition to the Vancouver Canucks' defensive corps, providing the kind of stability, puck-moving ability, and experience that the team needs. While cap considerations would play a significant role in making this move possible, Pettersson could be the steadying force the Canucks have been seeking on their blue line.
