Reporter shares insight on Boeser's next contract: Fits the Canucks' budget?
A Vancouver Canucks reporter has shared what Brock Boeser's next contract could look like.
Patrick Johnston of The Province recently took a look at what Brock Boeser's next contract could be and it's safe to say that the American forward is in line for a pay raise, but it might not be as much as you'd think.
For starters, Boeser, who became eligible to sign a contract extension back on July 1st, will only be 28-years-old when he is able to hit the open market and will still be in the prime of his career for at least the first few years of his next deal.
Given that Boeser is currently earning $6.65 million USD per season right now, it's safe to assume that, at the low end of things, he'll get $7 million on his next contract and that number could be even higher if he has another strong season, like he did in 2023-24.
Johnston took a look into data released by Daily Faceoff which showed that Brock Boeser should be able to sustain the value of his next contract for the first two years, before his production drops off, but there's still a chance that he could go into his 30s and still be an offensive weapon, much like Tyler Toffoli, John Tavares and Artemi Panarin, just a few of the examples mentioned.
As Johnston mentions, Boeser is in line to get a bump in pay and while he didn't mention a specific number, he added that it'll be hard to justify a significant pay raise for the Burnsville, Minnesota native.
For Boeser, it may be best to wait things out and cash in later on in the season or next summer, if he decides to test the open market. If he's able to have another strong offensive season and even surpass his career-high in points, which is 73 that he set last year, there's no doubt he could be looking in the range of $7.75-$8 million AAV on his next contract.
