Gustav Forsling, who originally began his career as a Canuck draft pick, has signed an eight year extension with the Florida Panthers worth $5.75 million per year.
That extension is over $1.5 million cheaper than projected by AFP Analytics, and should allow the Panthers to recoup both Sam Reinhart and Brandon Montour if they want to.
Forsling is an example that patience can pay off with prospects, as the 27 year old has become a premiere defensive defenceman.
The Canucks traded Forsling less than a year after drafting him, acquiring Adam Clendening who played just 17 games for the team.
After parts of two seasons with Chicago, the Blackhawks dealt him and goaltender Anton Forsberg to Carolina for Calvin De Haan and Aleksi Saarela - Forsling was eventually placed on waivers and claimed by the Panthers, where he's become a staple of their defence.
It's been a great week already for the Eastern conference leading Florida Panthers, and it just got better with this signing.
