MAJOR | The Penguins' ask from the Canucks for Jake Guentzel revealed
With the NHL trade deadline quickly approaching, Jake Guentzel remains a Pittsburgh Penguin. That is largely expected to change prior to Friday's deadline, and the Canucks have found themselves continuously in and out of the mix for the 29-year-old.
After previous reports suggested that the team could possibly part ways with recently-acquired Elias Lindholm in order to facilitate a Guentzel trade, new reports are emerging regarding the Penguins potential asking price.
"Some think the Penguins want Hoglander and Lekkerimaki, that's too rich.."
Lekkerimaki was the Canucks' first-round pick in 2022 and is perhaps the most highly-touted prospect in their system. The team has already expressed their hesitance to move the young Swedish forward. Hoglander, 23, has already surpassed his previous career-highs in goals and points with 19 goals and 28 points so far this season. This is despite averaging just over 11 minutes of ice time per game.
Guentzel will become a UFA on July 1st and is perhaps the hottest commodity on the trade market. Previous reports alluded to the Canucks pursuing him aggressively, and time will tell if the team is willing to pull the trigger on some high-end pieces in order to get the deal done.
However, the most recent report confirmed that the Canucks deemed the price was too high. The way it seems, Dubas has been asking too much and teams have started drifting to other options. Will the Canucks circle back once the price tag drops?
