According to Josh Yohe, a writer for The Athletic who generally covers the Pittsburgh Penguins, says that earlier this season the New York Rangers offered up struggling forward Mika Zibanejad as part of a trade for J.T Miller - an offer which the Canucks promptly rejected.
While Zibanejad has in years past been a premier center in the NHL, he has taken a step back in the last two seasons and this year is struggling as much or more than any other player on the Rangers managing just 8 goals and 16 assists in 39 games.
Miller, even while surrounded by drama and having a relative down year, is scoring at a point per game rate and is coming off of a career season of 103 points.
The Rangers have been rumoured to be interested in a reunion with Miller for much of the season, but if Zibanejad and his 5.5 years remaining at $8.5 million are the centrepiece, Allvin and the Canucks seem to have zero interest.
Not to mention, Zibanejad also has a full no-movement clause, and seemingly has no interest in a trade.
The Vancouver Canucks and New York Rangers have been, almost undoubtedly, the two teams in the NHL surrounded by the most controversy.
While the Rangers have already made significant moves like trading their captain Jacob Trouba and former 2nd overall pick Kappo Kakko, they seem motivated to do even more.
For the Canucks, dealing one of J.T Miller or Elias Pettersson is starting to look like a more and more likely reality, and the Rangers have some pieces that could interest Patrik Allvin and co.
But clearly if J.T Miller is to return to New York, the Canucks have no interest in adding Zibanejad.
