The newest member of the Vancouver Canucks, Daniel Sprong, is no stranger to the two leading members of the Canucks' front office.

In fact, Sprong says his relationship with Patrik Allvin and Jim Rutherford -and their belief in him as a player- really helped push him to sign with Vancouver.

They drafted me, they believed in me from the second they drafted me. But since then, I've matured a lot and my game has developed.

Once looking like he wasn't long for the NHL, Sprong has revitalized his career as a depth scoring option over the past two seasons with the Seattle Kraken and Detroit Red Wings - scoring 46 points and 43 points respectively while averaging 12 minutes of ice time or less.

His production has been so efficient the last two years that many were surprised he was still available, and for under $1 million at that.

While Sprong's relationship with Allvin and Rutherford helped, so too did his relationship with a couple of the team's projected top forwards: Elias Pettersson and Jake DeBrusk.

It's hard to say how big of an impact Sprong will have, but at such a low cost there's almost no risk to the Canucks.
