Canucks and their newest additions: Finally getting the recognition they deserve
The Vancouver Canucks were recently ranked high on a list of Stanley Cup contenders for the 2024-25 season.
Heading into the 2024-25 season, there's plenty of pressure on the Vancouver Canucks after what they were able to accomplish last year - winning the Pacific Division and advancing to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
General Manager Patrik Allvin has been pretty busy this off-season, signing forwards Jake DeBrusk, Danton Heinen, Kiefer Sherwood and Daniel Sprong, along with defencemen Derek Forbort and Vincent Desharnais, all of whom he's hoping to make a significant impact next season.
With their off-season work likely done, the Canucks can turn their attention to training camp in just under two months from now, and expectations are high around the league for Vancouver this coming season, including from Sara Civian of Bleacher Report.
In a post on Bleacher Report recently, Civian shared her list of the top-12 Stanley Cup contenders for the 2024-25 campaign and coming in at sixth was the Vancouver Canucks.
6. Vancouver Canucks
"The Canucks were sadly hanging by a thread for much of the 2024 playoffs when it should've been an encore of their vibey season. Even then, it still sort of waswith random heroes and likely heroes abound, but leading scorer Brock Boeser's illness was too much to surpass the Oilers. It was also devastating to see Vezina finalist goalie Thatcher Demko go down in the first round. Still, since he didn't rush back and took care of himself, he has gifted the team a strong opportunity to build and contend once again this season.
Run it back with some confidence, Vancouver!" Civian said. With the current core the Vancouver Canucks have, along with the additions made in the off-season so far, there's no doubt the team has the chance to repeat the success they had in the regular season last year. However, once the playoffs end, they'll need their stars to step up and pray that everyone is healthy enough for a deep run toward their first-ever Stanley Cup championship.
