Over the weekend, Vancouver Canucks forward Vasily Podkolzin participated in a game featuring Russian stars in the National Hockey League and Kontinental Hockey League and produced some offence for his team.
The NHL roster was loaded with talent including Alexander Ovechkin, Evgeni Malkin, Artemi Panarin, Ilya Kovalchuk, Andrei Svechnikov, Sergei Bobrosvky, Mikhail Sergachev, among others. Meanwhile, the KHL's roster featured a former Vancouver Canuck, who lit up the Russian league last season - Nikolay Goldobin, along with other stars including Alexander Radulov, Vadim Shipachyov and Alexander Nikishin.
The charity game was played Moscow on Saturday and none other than Alexander Ovechkin got the scoring started early, 25 seconds into the first period.
For his part, Vasily Podkolzin scored less than five minutes into the second period to make it 7-4 for the NHL stars. He would also go on to add an assist as the game ended in an 8-8 tie.
Former Canucks forward Nikolay Goldobin also found his way onto the scoresheet, two goals and an assist, including the final tally of the night to make it 8-8.
Podkolzin is going to have some tough competition in training camp this fall as he looks to earn a roster spot on opening night. It's going to be interesting to see how he performs in camp and during pre-season games and if ultimately, Tocchet names him to the opening night roster.
