According to TSN Insider Chris Johnston, Erik Brannstrom has cleared waivers and it's expected that he'll be assigned to the American Hockey League shortly.
"Erik Brannstrom (VAN) clears waivers." Johnston said in a post on X.
Brannstrom, a native of Ekjso, Sweden last appeared in a game back on New Year's Eve when the Vancouver Canucks took on the Calgary Flames and in each of the six games that followed, he's found himself in the press box.
Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet has been asked on a few occasions why Erik Brannstrom was a healthy scratch for a long stretch and on Saturday, where he shared the following:
"Yeah, you know I just think we've been playing a lot of low event games, we're struggling to score goals and we feel we've got to stay in the game that way.
I think puck-moving defensemen, but you've also got to defend. There's a lot of different things. I think Bris (Brisebois) is a good defender.
We've got Hughes now. I just think the risk reward part of it is something we'd rather go this way. But that doesn't mean he won't get in." Tocchet said."
Brannstrom and the Abbotsford Canucks will be in action on Tuesday night as they host the Ontario Reign, AHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings.
