J.T. Miller discusses Team USA's call with President Donald Trump
U.S. President Donald Trump shared on social media this morning that he was unable to attend tonight's game at TD Garden in Boston, but he was able to phone the American team..
The call between Donald Trump and Team USA didn't last too long, with the President wishing the players good luck ahead of tonight's massive game with Canada.
Team USA forward and former Vancouver Canuck J.T. Miller spoke with reporters after their call with Donald Trump, saying that it was awesome to get his support and it was one of those things that they were "pinching themselves".
"It was so awesome to get his support. It's a pretty big deal for him to take time out of his schedule to talk to us for five minutes. It's just another one of those things where we're kind of pinching ourselves this tournament." Miller said.
Tonight's game between Canada and the United States will mark the fifth time that the two nations have met in the final of a best-on-best tournament.
In 1991, Canada defeated the United States in the best-of-three final at the 'Canada Cup', before the Americans beat the Canadians five years later at the 1996 World Cup of Hockey.
In their last two meetings in the final of best-on-best tournaments, Canada has taken home the gold medal - 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics and Vancouver 2010, the latter where Sidney Crosby scored the overtime winner in what is arguably the most famous goal in the history of the sport, along with Paul Henderson in 1972.
Puck drop for tonight's championship game between Canada and the United States is set for 5 pm PT (8 pm local), with an hour-long pre-game show beginning at 4 pm PT (7 pm local) on Sportsnet.
