This fall has been an up-and-down one for former Vancouver Canucks defenseman and 2018 Stanley Cup champion Madison Bowey, as he's had a hard time finding a permanent home for the season.
Bowey started out by signing a professional tryout contract with the New York Rangers, joining them for training camp and preseason games, but unfortunately that was unsuccessful.
Just as the 2024-25 season was getting underway here in North America, Bowey landed another professional tryout contract (PTO), this time with the American Hockey League's Cleveland Monsters.
The Cleveland Monsters liked what they saw from Madison Bowey on his professional tryout, where he put up three assists in 17 games, and decided to sign him to a standard AHL contract for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign.
Bowey, 29, was drafted in the second round, 53rd overall, by the Washington Capitals in 2013, before moving on to the Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks and Vancouver Canucks, along with a one-year stint in the Montreal Canadiens system in 2022-23.
In April 2021, the Vancouver Canucks acquired Bowey from the Chicago Blackhawks, along with a fifth-round pick in exchange for a fourth-round pick.
During his time Vancouver Canucks during the 2021-22 season, he appeared in two games with the big club, but the majority of the year, he was with AHL Abbotsford, registering 28 points (eight goals, 20 assists) in 53 games.
If the Winnipeg native is able to have a strong season in the AHL, it wouldn't be surprising to see him get at least a PTO from a National Hockey League team next summer.
