Insider Reveals the Real Reason the Trade Between Vancouver Canucks & New York Rangers Fell Through

With all of the rumors and trade speculation regarding Vancouver Canucks Stars J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson, the closest to a deal when the Canucks turned down an offer from the New York Rangers, and NHL Insider reveals the real reason why.
It was originally reported that the Rangers offered forward Mika Zibanejad for J.T. Miller in a one-for-one trade, and understandably so as Millers impact on and off the ice is way great to that of Zibanejad, but that is not the real why the trade fell through.
Why the Trade Between the New York Rangers and Vancouver Canucks Got Rejected
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman revealed on the 32 Thoughts Podcast the real reason the trade didn't work, and it is not what you think, as the counter offer was a lot more than just a one-for-one.
Before this trade offer was put in place, earlier in the season, when J.T. Miller took his mental health break, it was confirmed that the Rangers approached the Canucks about acquiring Miller.
The Canucks were only entertaining the idea because they have their eye on Rangers 2020 first-round pick Braden Schneider.
You'll remember that when Miller took his mental health break, the Rangers, who covet the player, were in Vancouver. From what I understand, they approached the Canucks to discuss what something could look like, and Zibanejad was included in the conversation. I don't know that Zibanejad, who has a no-move clause, was ever approached. I asked at the time and did not receive a clear answer. I also think it was actually a bigger deal, and one of the issues is that Vancouver adores Braden Schneider, who the Rangers do not want to trade. This would be the second time New York has rejected a Vancouver attempt for him.
If a deal is going to get struck between the Rangers and Canucks, especially with J.T. Miller involved, New York is going to have to Schneider to the mix, and it is clear that the Rangers are not interested in that.
